Guilds is a learning center design group led by Bryan Welch, in conversation with collaborators in NYC and across the country.

Bryan Welch is a lifelong educator dedicated to creating places of learning that honor curiosity and serve as engines of social change. His work explores the transformative potential of spaces that exist in between formal and informal learning, institution and community, work and play.

Bryan is the co-founder of A Curious Summer (a summer program) and Brightworks (an alternative K-12 school) in San Francisco CA, as well as Kite’s Nest (a learning center) in Hudson, NY. In 2014, Bryan collaborated with Konbit Shelter to found Klub Obzevatwa, an on-going children’s program in Komye, Haiti.

Bryan uses photography to create a qualitative record of the inquiry of children.

He is currently the educator-in-residence at the Lower Eastside Girls Club in NYC, and serves as the Creative Director of the Heliotrope Foundation.
